Kithairon
Run to the Mountain

In January 2024, Tooth and Sinew will present this world premiere production at KXT Broadway.

★★★★ “As vividly entertaining as it is brutally effective” – Audrey Journal

★★★★ “Tooth and Sinew are the local theatre world’s trailblazers of explosively creative derangement…may we be gifted with another jack-in the box of inspired madness soon.” – Timeout

“It’s been a constant reference point for me since I saw them” – Kaleidoscope Arts Journal

Tooth and Sinew are wholly invested in creating new works that challenge, inspire and confront audiences. We believe in forming close bonds with every team we work with in order to allow all members the space to create fine work and to create shows that are vividly theatrical and emotionally arresting.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Using Euripides’ The Bacchae as a launchpad and directed by Richard Hilliar (U.B.U, APOCKA-WOCKA-LOCKALYPSE, The Turn of the Screw), Kithairon will be a group-devised work. The team will work together through textual and physical improvisations to create a piece which explores the state of gender relationships in current society.

SYNOPSIS

It started as an impulse. A compulsion that couldn’t be denied.

Run. From family. From home. From everything. Just run.

And leave the men behind.

The story Euripides didn’t tell in The Bacchae. An entire city of women has fled from civilisation to start a new life in the wilderness. What are they doing there? And how long before the men start hunting?

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

All members of the cast will be engaged in line with the MEAA Co-op agreement, including profit-share and a guaranteed payment/honorarium.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

YOU! This show will be built around the performers involved and their individual strengths. So we’re looking for dynamic, creative people with an open physicality and a courageous desire to explore and develop work on the floor.

TO PREPARE

  • A 2-minute monologue of your choosing.

  • A 2-minute piece exploring the theme of ‘FURY’. This can be literally anything. Another monologue. A physical piece. A song. Use this as an opportunity to showcase exactly who you are as an artist and theatremaker. You could stand there and pop pimples for 2 minutes as long as you make it engaging.
